History:
Howarth’s Funeral Service was founded in Bolton in January
1991 when John and Alison Howarth opened their funeral service at
Astley Bridge in Bolton. The reason John and Alison formed their
own Funeral Service was the majority of local Funeral Services were
owned and operated by the Co-operative Funeral Service. They continue
to trade under their former names, thus misleading families into
believing that they are being given personal and individual attention
by the family whose name is above the door.
John Howarth:
John has been involved in the Funeral profession since 1973 when
he trained at Shaw and Son on Chorley New Road. He gained his Diploma
in Funeral Directing (Dip F.D.) in 1974 and his certificate in Embalming
(M.B.I.E.) in 1975. He then studied for his Tutors licence in both
these subjects, gaining his Embalming Tutor’s in 1981 and
his Funeral Director Tutor’s in 1988. After working for C.W.S.
Funeral Service where he was responsible for overseeing the training
of all employees in Funeral related topics, he formed his own funeral
service in Bolton.
Alison Howarth:
Alison, who is a head teacher
in a local primary school, is involved in the funeral service as
and when time permits. She qualified Dip F.D. in 1986 and tutors'
in 1989.
Along with John they have run a very successful
Funeral Directing School, in the last examinations they had a 100%
pass rate. They have trained not only funeral directors for other
local companies and some as far afield as Yorkshire but also their
two daughters Anna and Laura.
